Official or not

Rust's in-game Official tab against everything else

Official servers are the ones in Rust's in-game Official tab: Facepunch's own and its partners', such as RustSpain. Rust Server Score keeps that list by hand, by hostname and address. Everything else is a community or modded server.

This is everyone on a public Rust server right now: 90,172 players across 11,806 servers, refreshed every five minutes. Below the live total you can see the day so far, the 98,991 peak and the record of 145,095, then the same players split by game mode, modded or not, group size, gather rate, region and wipe day. A few large servers hold most of the players, so the split matters more than the total.

How the players split

The class sizes: every server online is counted once in each breakdown, so each one adds up to the 90,172 players on 11,806 servers.

Modded or not

rates, rules and plugins

Oxide runs on 7,486 servers with 53,664 players, Carbon on 1,894 with 16,733. 2,662 servers with 44,737 players call themselves vanilla.

By game mode

what each server is for

Premium-only servers (296, with 1,768 players) are counted in their mode: premium decides who may join, not how the game plays.

Questions

How many people are playing Rust right now?

The figure at the top of the page counts every player on a public Rust server, refreshed every five minutes. It moves through the day, so the current number and the 98,991 peak can differ a lot. 900 players are waiting in queues at this refresh.

Why is this lower than the Steam player count?

Steam counts everyone with Rust open, including players in menus, on loading screens and on servers that do not list publicly. This page counts only players on public servers, which is also what lets it split them by type. Both numbers are real, but they answer different questions.

When are the most players online?

The busiest hours follow the European evening, with a second rise for the US evening. The quietest hours are early morning in Europe. The history above shows this in the live data, last updated 27 Oct 2026, 15:40 UTC.

Are more players on modded or vanilla servers?

Modded servers usually hold more players in total, mainly because there are many more of them. The split on this page is live and changes as servers report. For a like-for-like view, check the graded lists of modded and vanilla servers.
