Rank is players over the last seven days. A big server showing offline while the rest are up is that server restarting or wiping, not Rust being down. In the register, / is present and O is absent.
The verdict, in numbers
We read the public server list every five minutes. We count how many servers answer and how many players they hold. Then we compare that count with what is normal for this hour on the same weekday, measured over the past 48 hours. That gives the verdict at the top of this page.
A reading close to normal means the servers are up. A reading far below normal suggests a problem with Rust or Steam. The gap between the two is what tells you which.
The numbers behind the verdict

- Last read: the time under the verdict. If that is more than 25 minutes old, we say the reading is behind rather than guess.
We show 48-hour charts for both servers online and players online. The shape of the line matters as much as the latest point. A sudden cliff on both chart lines points at Steam or Rust. A single server missing from the list while the total looks normal points at that server.
If the biggest servers are missing, the total drops sharply and the verdict changes with it. Their absence is the clearest signal, because they carry the most players and restart first on update days.
When this page and your game disagree
If our verdict says servers are up but your server browser is empty, the problem is usually between you and Steam. Restart Steam and Rust. Check the filters in the server browser. Are Rust servers down right now?
The verdict at the top of this page is live. It compares the number of servers and players we just read with the normal figure for this hour on the same weekday. If the count is close to normal, servers are up. If it is far below, Rust or Steam is likely having a problem.
Why does my server browser show no servers when this page says they are up?
That usually means the problem is on your side or Steam's, not with Rust. Restart Steam and Rust, clear any filters you set in the server browser, and on force wipe day make sure the game is updated. The list of checks in our status guide covers each step in order.
How current is the reading on this page?
We read the full server list every five minutes and show the time of the last read under the verdict. If that time is more than 25 minutes old, the page tells you the reading is behind rather than presenting it as current.
